There are a ton of recipes out there for kale chips these days. Most of the ones I have come across either require you to use a dehydrator or to bake them on a super low temperature in your oven for hours. Local health food stores here sell them for $7 – $8 for a 2.5 oz package.
I don’t own a dehydrator and when I have a craving for kale chips, I don’t want to wait hours. I also don’t want to pay an arm and a leg to purchase a bag of pre-made kale chips that I’m going to inhale in 30 seconds.
Liquid smoke gives these kale chips have an amazing flavor and they can be whipped up in less than 20 minutes (bake time included).
They are the perfect snack to make when you’re craving something high on flavor and low on calories. They also make a great side dish.
Smoky Kale “Chips” (Serves 2- 4, or 1, if you’re me!)
- Large bunch of Kale (I usually fill a large mixing bowl with as much as I can!), stems removed
- 1 TBSP Olive Oil
- 1 TBSP Liquid Smoke
- 1 TBSP Nutritional Yeast
- Salt & Pepper
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Wash and dry kale, break leaves off of stems and place in a large mixing bowl. Pour olive oil and liquid smoke over the kale and mix it in using your hands. Spread the kale out on a baking sheet lined with foil and sprayed with cooking spray. Sprinkle nutritional yeast evenly over the top. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the top as well (go lighter on the salt than you think you should!). Bake for 15 minutes. Enjoy fresh out of the oven.
